About This Place

Fancy Wheat Field Bakery stands out as a must-visit Chinese bakery nestled in the heart of San Francisco at 2684 San Bruno Ave. This charming bakery delights locals and visitors alike with its impressive selection of traditional and innovative pastries that celebrate authentic flavors with a modern twist. From the moment you step inside, the inviting aroma of freshly baked goods sets the stage for a truly mouthwatering experience.

For those craving an iconic treat, the Pineapple Bun is an absolute standout. With its sweet, crunchy topping that perfectly balances a soft, fluffy interior, it’s a textural delight that will keep you coming back for more. If your palate leans toward something creamy and indulgent, don’t miss the Tiramisu—a luscious fusion of Italian flair within a Chinese bakery’s finesse. The Ariel Cake and the variety of red bean pastries offer layers of nostalgia, comfort, and rich, subtly sweet flavors that embody the essence of traditional Chinese baking with a contemporary edge.

Hungry for a savory crunch to complement your sweet picks? The bakery’s “Crunchy Munchy” selections provide an irresistible snack line-up. From the golden Sweet Potato Fries and crispy Tater Tots to the delectably soft and savory Sesame Ball with Red Bean and perfectly seasoned Fish Balls (Curry), every bite bursts with texture and flavor. Their Popcorn Chicken and Tempura Shrimps are golden-crisp, juicy delights that pair wonderfully with their unique beverages.

Beverage lovers can indulge in Fancy Wheat Field Bakery’s innovative drink offerings like the Puffy Twister Milk Tea series, which includes tempting flavors like Matcha, Taro, and Cookie & Cream—each crafted to be a creamy, refreshing complement to your pastries. The Pure Cloud Fruit-Tea collection, featuring Salted Cheese Mango, Pineapple, and Grape among others, transforms everyday fruit tea into a luxurious, layered experience that perfectly balances sweetness and tang.

Despite its cozy space, Fancy Wheat Field Bakery packs a flavorful punch, as Adriana Hernandez beautifully puts it, “The place might be small, but the flavors are anything but.” Her enthusiasm resonates with anyone who appreciates both the sweet and savory spectrum of Chinese bakery delights. JC Belmont also praises the bakery for its cakes, especially highlighting their exquisite mango and fruit cakes, which are light vanilla sponge creations topped with fresh cream and fruits—a refreshing departure from the usual fruit cake, perfect for any special occasion.

In essence, Fancy Wheat Field Bakery is a sensory haven where tradition meets creativity, wrapped in every crisply baked pastry and sip of carefully crafted tea. Whether you’re a devoted fan of red bean classics, a lover of soft, creamy cakes, or someone looking to explore savory snacks with a distinctive flair, this bakery promises to captivate your taste buds and warm your heart.

This San Francisco bakery has my heart – and my taste buds! The array of both sweet and savory pastries is a continuous delight, and they're always coming out fresh. If you have a thing for red bean fillings like I do, you're in for a treat – just be warned, they fly off the shelves like hotcakes (or, in this case, hot pastries). The place might be small, but the flavors are anything but. It's a cozy little spot that's definitely worth a stop. I left with a full bag of goodies – couldn't resist. If you're swinging by, bring your self-control game because, trust me, it'll be put to the test. Happy indulging!

Best Chinese bakery for cakes. Get the mango or fruit cake for your special occasion. My favorite is the fruit cake. It’s not like the fruit cake we know. It’s a sponge vanilla cake filled and topped with cream and fresh fruits.
